Fat Transfer / Fat Grafting
Fat grafting is a technique where fat is removed from one area of the body where it is unwanted and transferred to another part of the body where it can be used to correct volume deficiencies or contour abnormalities. This technique is not new but the areas in which it is used has increased dramatically recently
The advantages of using fat grafting compared to other artificial fillers is that you are using your own tissues rather than injecting foreign material into your body. You will also get liposuction in areas of your body where you don't want fat.
Fat transfer also contains stem cells which can assist in tissue repair and rejuvenation. Once fat has been successfully transferred to an area it will last longer than artificial injectable fillers which require regular injections.
The disadvantages of this technique is that not all the fat transferred survives and so more than one procedure may be required in some cases.
A consultation is required before any surgery with Mr Stanley Loo at Eastcare Medical Specialist Centre, 260 Botany Road, Howick, Auckland or Ormiston Specialist Centre, 125 Ormiston Rd, Flat Bush, Auckland to discuss what your requirements are and to determine the best technique for you.
